Stellar Solar’s project entails the installation of a 107.8 kW (DC) system. The system consists of two carport photovoltaic arrays. The structure placed at at 1281 W C st, Colton, Suite 300 CA, 92324 is a 70.65kW (DC) system, made up of 144 SILFAB SIL-490 HN PV Modules and (3) Solectria 25 kW (208.120V) inverters.
The second structure at 1281 W C St, Suite 100, has a capacity of 37.24kW (DC), and it consists of 76 SILFAB SIL-490 HN PV modules, with (2) Solectria 25 kW (208.120V) inverters. The system will not be placed into operation until authorized by Liberty Utility.
CalMed Ambulatory Surgery Center is a critical healthcare provider in Southern California, offering advanced outpatient surgical services that require the highest standards of operational reliability. Operating a modern surgery center involves a significant, non-negotiable electrical load—powering sterile surgical suites, high-definition imaging systems, and precise climate control for patient recovery. To secure its energy future and lower overhead, CalMed partnered with Stellar Solar Commercial to deploy a sophisticated 107.8 kW (DC) solar carport strategy across its Colton campus.
Designing a solar solution for an active medical campus requires a sophisticated understanding of patient flow, site security, and electrical redundancy. Stellar Solar Commercial engineered a dual-structure carport system that transforms the facility’s parking areas into high-output power plants while providing essential value to patients and staff.
The technical architecture of the CalMed installation features:
-220 Silfab SIL-490 HN PV Modules: Utilizing premium North American-made Silfab technology, the system leverages 490W high-efficiency panels. These modules are engineered for long-term durability and maximum energy harvest, ensuring the surgery center captures every possible watt of the Inland Empire sun.
-Distributed Solectria Inverter Strategy: The system utilizes five Solectria 25 kW (208/120V) inverters across the two structures. This industrial-grade configuration provides the high power quality and system redundancy essential for a medical environment where “uptime” is a matter of professional integrity.
-Two-Phase Campus Deployment:
-Suite 300 Structure: A robust 70.65 kW (DC) array consisting of 144 modules and three inverters.
-Suite 100 Structure: A specialized 37.24 kW (DC) array featuring 76 modules and two inverters.
-Integrated Patient Comfort: Beyond energy generation, these striking carport structures provide essential shaded parking, protecting vehicles from the intense California heat and creating a more comfortable experience for patients arriving for or recovering from procedures.
In the 2026 energy landscape, where utility rates for medical facilities have reached historic highs, the strategy at CalMed provides a vital financial shield. By generating its own power on-site, the surgery center has effectively neutralized a significant portion of its monthly utility burden.
Every kilowatt-hour produced by the Silfab array is a kilowatt-hour the center does not have to purchase from Liberty Utility at premium peak rates. This creates a permanent stream of savings that can be redirected toward:
-Advanced Surgical Technology: Investing in the latest minimally invasive tools and diagnostic equipment.
-Staff and Patient Resources: Enhancing the clinic’s ability to provide top-tier care without increasing administrative overhead.
-Operational Resilience: Protecting the facility against the volatility of the commercial energy market for the next two decades.
Since 1998, Stellar Solar Commercial has been the preferred partner for California’s leading surgery centers and healthcare providers. We bring over 28 years of technical expertise to these high-stakes projects, navigating the unique structural and safety requirements of medical campuses while ensuring that daily clinical operations remain undisturbed during construction.
Our in-house team handles the entire lifecycle of the project—from initial structural analysis of the parking lot to navigating complex utility interconnection with providers like Liberty Utility. We specialize in “quiet-professional” construction, ensuring the patient experience and facility safety remain the top priority throughout the installation process.
As we move through 2026, the strategy for specialized medical centers has evolved to include Solar + Battery Storage. For organizations like CalMed, adding a utility-scale battery system provides an essential layer of resilience, ensuring that critical surgical lighting, communication hubs, and refrigeration for sensitive medications remain fully operational even during regional power outages.
Stellar Solar Commercial continues to lead this energy revolution, helping California’s healthcare leaders build a resilient, low-cost energy future. We turn medical parking lots into powerful tools for sustainability and clinical success.
